Creating Cartoons from Your Photographs

“I don’t think of cartoons or comics as being for kids.”—Jeff Kinney

Cartoons & Pop Art is a new set of Photoshop actions from Panos Efstathiadis the proprietor of PanosFX, an amazingly talented designer of Photoshop actions.

Panos says that the Cartoons & Pop Art actions work “like a Swiss Army knife,” giving you an array of creative options. The actions transform your photos into cartoons by using a clever combination of Photoshop filters and “advanced features.” Over the years I have tried many different kinds of software that promised to create “cartoons” and while most of them worked somewhat, none approach the simplicity of use and the professional look tht the Cartoons & Pop Art actions produce.

The actions will also work on photos that have transparent background, without flattening them allowing you to apply customizable pop-up backgrounds to the cartoons. Another feature is the ability to create pop-art collages ala Warhol, for readers who remember this look. The actions create two different collages, with four and nine photos and customizable colors that are four and nine times the original photo size, respectively. The Cartoons & Pop Art actions can also create 12 different speech balloons that Panos designed using Adobe Illustrator.

If you have Photoshop CC-2015.5 or newer or PS Elements 15 or newer (see system requirements below) you can use the actions to create funny caricatures.

The actions are available for both Photoshop ($18.90) and Photoshop Elements ($18.90.) Please visit the PanosFX site for a look at the wide variety of free and affordably priced software for Photoshop as well as Photoshop Elements.
